Collections - Library
The Phil Weld Library at the Museum of Yachting and the IYRS student library will be consolidated as a research center in the newly restored Aquidneck mill building on the IYRS campus.
In early 2009, the completion of the 1831 Aquidneck mill restoration will signal the opening of a new maritime library. Dedicated to yachting history, the new facility will be located on the fourth floor of the historic building and be home to both the Phil Weld Library, formerly at the Museum of Yachting, and the IYRS student library. Nearly 2,000 square feet has been dedicated to books, periodicals, research materials, and artifacts, including the Bill Combs Miniature Model Collection, rare photography, trophies and other three dimensional artifacts.
We are pleased to also announce that the Redwood Library is assisting in the planning, design and cataloging of the library. Currently, the Redwood is acting as a steward for some of the rare books in the museum’s collection. We are appreciative of their counsel and collaborative efforts.
The new library will open to the public in Summer 2009. For more information, please email tnathan@iyrs.org.
