The deck hardware, winches, etc are slowly getting put on Cherokee. The other day, we had to load everything she'd have in her during a race onto the boat for the official weighing.
So, all the sails, boxes of uninstalled hardware, a little anchor (yes, it's required!) all got piled in, and then she was put in slings
and lifted clear of the water.
There's an electronic scale in between the hook up top and the big oval ring that wireless displays the boat's weight to the official on the ground. We came in at 3885 kg (I think I'm remembering this is right, but given the state of my memory post 50, it's subject to confirmation) and I believe that's within our design estimate.
But then we got a tow out into the harbor with some of the syndicate members and David Stimson... and all those numbers went away.
We were particularly fortunate to have Hank Thayer, our sailmaker and expert six-metre racer along for the ride to help us tune things. That's him in the sun glasses on the left. He was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.
So we learned a lot, but mostly just had fun.
She looked amazing.
The next two days she sailed solidly in the 155th Annual New York Yacht Club Regatta and despite not having the spinnaker set up and being sailed very conservatively as we started to learn how she felt, she did pretty dang well.
She's a fast boat, no doubt about it.
More later...
